IOWA—In response to the EPA’s release of the Clean Power Plan, Tim Mahern-Macias, LCV Iowa Field Director, issued the following statement:

“The Clean Power Plan is the single biggest step our country has ever taken to combat climate change and is a huge win for public health. These historic standards will ensure that big polluters can no longer spew an unlimited amount of carbon pollution into our air. The Clean Power Plan is a flexible plan that empowers Iowa to craft our own solutions to reduce carbon pollution and continues to grow our clean energy sector. These clean air protections will once again demonstrate that American ingenuity and innovation leads to improved health, lower costs and a stronger economy.

“We urge Governor Branstad to support the Clean Power Plan, taking advantage of the flexible framework which allows Iowa to craft the solutions that work best for us. Iowa’s leaders should seize this opportunity to safeguard our health and environment while creating jobs and further expanding our wind energy economy.”
