Representative Gwen Graham (D-FL) offered an amendment to H.R. 5538, the Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2017, which would prohibit the use of funds for the research, investigation, or study of offshore drilling in the Eastern Gulf of Mexico, an area currently off-limits to drilling that attracts millions of tourists each year and is also home to many species of wildlife. On July 13, the House rejected the Graham amendment by a vote of 185-243 (House roll call vote 447). YES IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE. The House passed H.R. 5538 on July 14, but the Senate took no action on this legislation.
