Representative Chip Roy (R-TX) sponsored, and Representative Scott Perry (R-PA) offered for debate, an amendment to H.R. 8998, the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2025, which would block efforts to advance environmental justice, including those to reduce pollution and climate threats in communities on the front lines of our nation’s most dangerous environmental and health hazards. For too long, communities of color, communities of low wealth, and other historically underserved groups have been forced to bear the brunt of damaging projects, climatic hazards, and health-harming pollution. Federal programs, policies, and agency workforce initiatives that remedy these injustices are important and should be maintained. On July 24, the House approved the Roy amendment by a vote of 210-204 (House roll call vote 397). NO IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE. The Senate took no action on this legislation.
