About Us

The League of Conservation Voters builds political power to protect people and the planet – because our Earth is worth fighting for.

Our Vision For A More Just & Equitable Planet

We envision a world in which tackling the climate crisis, confronting environmental injustice, and strengthening our democracy lead to cleaner and healthier communities, good, well-paying jobs, and a just, equitable, and sustainable future for all.

Who We Are & What We Do

The threats to our environment and democracy are interlinked, and our nation’s biggest environmental challenges – including the climate crisis – require political solutions.

To address these interconnected challenges, LCV influences public policy by:

LCV’s unique ability to execute these core strategies puts us at the center of the fight for our Earth. Our efforts to protect the environment and engage in the political process are rooted in an understanding of racial, social, and environmental justice.

  • Our Commitment to Equity & Racial Justice

From the climate crisis to assaults on our democracy to economic inequality, these challenges are caused and exacerbated by the realities of systemic and structural racism and other interlocking systems of oppression.

Guiding and motivating our actions to address these interconnected challenges are LCV’s values – accountability, anti-racism, community, innovation, learning, and sustainability – which shape every decision across our organization. Central to these values is our firm commitment to center equity and racial justice in all of our work, including our external climate, democracy, and electoral work and our internal policies, practices, and structures.

Climate solutions and democratic reforms that do not intentionally confront the injustice upon which our democracy and its laws are built are bound to perpetuate inequities of the status quo. At the same time, the actions we can take to fight the climate crisis and foster a strong, participatory democracy present tremendous environmental, social, economic, and community benefits that we are committed to ensuring benefit everyone.

  • Our Impact

    • Securing the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, the most significant climate legislation in U.S. history.
    • Partnering with our state affiliates to push for state policies resulting in 40% of people in the U.S. now living in a place dedicated to 100% clean electricity.
    • Securing $2.5 billion in federal funding for 100% clean energy school buses.
  • Our Family of Organizations

    • The League of Conservation Voters Education Fund (LCVEF) works to expand voter participation, advocates for policy change, engages in public education, mobilizes, organizes, and builds grassroots power in communities, and supports our state LCVEF partners.
    • The League of Conservation Voters Action Fund (LCVAF), LCV’s connected federal political action committee (PAC), works to elect environmental champions who will address the climate crisis and fight to strengthen our democracy.
    • The LCV Victory Fund (LCVVF) is a political committee that engages in independent campaigns to influence competitive races where our involvement and issues can be decisive for pro-environment, pro-democracy candidates.
