Most recently he advised President Obama on ISIS and he served for two years as the Director for Iraq on President Obama’s National Security Council.

As a representative, Kim will prioritize responding to climate change as a national security crisis and stopping offshore drilling in New Jersey. He will work to rejoin the Paris Climate Agreement and protect against efforts to gut the EPA.

Kim joins the U.S. House to fill the seat of Representative Tom MacArthur, who earned an 14% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.

In his own words:

As a former national security official, I know climate change is not just an important environmental issue, but also an important national security issue. Congress needs to find bipartisan solutions to this pressing issue. Clean energy production isn’t just about our environment, it’s also about employing South Jersey and the Jersey shore with good, high-paying jobs. In Congress, I will work to bring those jobs here so we can work on these urgent environmental issues together.
