Washington, DC: In response to Wednesday afternoon’s votes on the Senate Budget resolution, LCV’s Legislative Director Sara Chieffo issued the following statement:
“With this budget, Senator McConnell’s Senate is continuing to prioritize polluters’ interests. Today’s votes included a damaging amendment to undermine the EPA and the Army Corps’ draft Clean Water Rule, which aims to protect the drinking water of 1 in 3 Americans; and saw the majority of the Senate Republicans again reject the science of climate change. We applaud the Senators who voted for alternative amendments introduced by Senator Stabenow that would affirm the science-based protections for clean water and by Senator Sanders that underscored the science and need to act on climate change. LCV has urged Senators to reject this budget overall and instead focus on the measures that put the interests of the average American first; that means promoting clean energy jobs, protecting the environment and keeping our economy growing.”
