Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) congratulates Representative Kathy Manning (NC-06) and incoming House members Wiley Nickel (NC-13), Jeff Jackson (NC-14), and Valerie Foushee (NC-04) on their wins in North Carolina.
“North Carolina just elected an extraordinary slate of environmental champions to Congress,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski. “We can’t wait to get to work with incoming new members Wiley Nickel, Jeff Jackson, Valerie Foushee and all of North Carolina’s climate and democracy champions to build a more just, equitable, clean energy future for North Carolina and the country.”
In North Carolina, LCVVF invested $70,000 in to elect Wiley Nickel and defeat Bo Hines in NC-13 as part of the Climate Voters Mobilization program with Climate Power Action.
LCV’s GreenRoots member mobilization program turned out LCV members to volunteer for the Jeff Jackson and Wiley Nickel campaigns as part of a nationwide field program to help elect environmental champions that engaged 8,250 total LCV members.
Environmental donors contributed nearly $650,000 to North Carolina candidates via GiveGreen. GiveGreen — a partnership between LCV Victory Fund and NRDC Action Votes that helps grassroots donors directly contribute to pro-environment candidates — raised a midterm record $26.9 million for the 2022 cycle.
These are just some of the climate champions who won up and down the ballot in North Carolina, demonstrating that leaning into environmental issues is both good policy and good politics.
