LCV Congratulates Senator Martin Heinrich and Other Endorsed New Mexico Candidates

Nov 6, 2024

Washington, D.C.– The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) congratulates Senator Martin Heinrich and Representatives Melaine Stansbury (NM-01), Gabe Vasquez (NM-02), and Teresa Leger Fernandez (NM-03) on their victories in New Mexico. We look forward to working together in the 119th Congress and beyond to continue making progress on addressing the climate crisis and protecting our democracy.

“Voters across New Mexico tonight made it clear that they want leaders who will fight for our public lands, clean air, clean water and clean energy for all,” said LCV President Gene Karpinksi. “We are thrilled to be able to continue working with all of the incredible champions in the New Mexico delegation to tackle the climate crisis and preserve our democracy.”

LCV Victory Fund invested $380,642 to reelect Rep. Gabe Vasquez and defeat Dirty Dozen member Yvette Herrell. Spending included a digital (Our Land and Radioactive) and broadcast radio program targeting Latine and Hispanic audiences, which called out Herrell’s history of leading the charge to sell New Mexico’s public lands and putting New Mexico’s water at risk.

GiveGreen — a partnership between LCV Victory Fund and NRDC Action Votes that helps grassroots donors directly contribute to pro-environment candidates including in New Mexico — raised a record $58.5 million for the 2024 cycle.

These are just some of the climate champions who won up and down the ballot in New Mexico, demonstrating that leaning into environmental issues is both good policy and good politics.
