Washington, D.C.– The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) congratulates Senator-elect Elissa Slotkin, Representatives Hillary Scholten (MI-03), Debbie Dingell (MI-06), and Haley Stevens (MI-11), and Representative-elect Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08)on their wins in Michigan. We look forward to working together in the 119th Congress and beyond to continue making progress on addressing the climate crisis and protecting our democracy.
“Tonight, Michiganders voted to protect access to clean water and to continue their historic progress to build a clean energy economy,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski. “After an incredible year implementing clean energy initiatives at the state and local level, Michiganders know firsthand the benefits of a clean energy economy. We look forward to working with Senator-elect Elissa Slotkin and Michigan representatives to continue working to ensure access to clean water and address the climate crisis.”
LCV Victory Fund invested over $1.9 million to elect Elissa Slotkin and defeat Mike Rogers. The spending included opening three field offices, knocking on over 530,000 doors and having 75,000 conversations with voters about how Harris and Slotkin will work to lower costs and protect access to clean air and water. In addition to our field program, LCV Victory Fund also supported BlackPAC’s field program to engage Black voters in Detroit. LCVVF also ran paid relational, GOTV mail, phones and a GOTV SMS program layered on top of our field outreach. In the final two weeks of the cycle, we also launched a digital ad that elevated Rogers’s record of voting against lowering costs.
In the House, LCV Victory Fund also invested $410,390 to defeat Paul Jung and elect Kristen McDonald Rivet. This spending included a broadcast ad contrasting Jung’s record of opposing lead pipe removal with McDonald Rivet’s history of standing up to Big Polluters.
LCV’s GreenRoots member mobilization program turned out LCV members to volunteer for the Harris and Slotkin campaigns as part of a nationwide field program to help elect environmental champions that engaged 10,000 total LCV members.
GiveGreen — a partnership between LCV Victory Fund and NRDC Action Votes that helps grassroots donors directly contribute to pro-environment candidates including in Michigan — raised a record $58.5 million for the 2024 cycle.
These are just some of the climate champions who won up and down the ballot in Michigan, demonstrating that leaning into environmental issues is both good policy and good politics.
