Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Rashida Tlaib for Congress in Michigan’s 13th District.
“As the former state representative of Michigan’s most polluted zip code, Rashida Tlaib knows what it takes to fight for all people’s right to clean air and water,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “Her experience taking on corporate polluters will help us all in the fight against climate change and we are thrilled to endorse her historic campaign.”
“Rashida Tlaib has been a champion for clean air and safe drinking water here in Michigan,” said Michigan League of Conservation Voters Executive Director Lisa Wozniak. “Michiganders can trust her to continue her fight for healthy communities when she gets to Washington and we look forward to partnering with her in that fight.”
“I have always fought for my community’s right to clean air and water,” said Rashida Tlaib. “Residents should have the right to live their daily lives without risking their health. I will continue to fight for a better quality of life for my community once in office.”
Rashida Tlaib was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. She received her bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University and her law degree from Thomas Cooley Law School. In 2008, Tlaib ran for the State House and became the first Muslim American woman to serve in the Michigan Legislature. She served for three terms and earned a strong 89 percent lifetime rating on the Michigan League of Conservation Voters’ Scorecard. After leaving the legislature, she worked for the Sugar Law Center, a non-profit that provides free legal representation for workers. If elected, Tlaib would be the first Muslim woman and the first Palestinian-American to serve in Congress.
