Washington D.C.- The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today its endorsement of Senator Doug Jones for re-election to the U.S. Senate from Alabama.
“Senator Doug Jones has already established himself as an important advocate for Alabama’s treasured outdoor spaces,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We are excited to endorse him for re-election because we know we can count on him to continue fighting for our rivers and wilderness and to grow Alabama’s clean energy economy and create new jobs in the state.”
“Senator Jones’ time in the Senate shows just how important elections are for our natural resources,” said Conservation Alabama Communications Director Stefanie Francisco. “Jones votes with Alabamians’ conservation priorities in mind: he’s a strong advocate for our water, air, public lands, and communities. We look forward to his reelection in 2020.”
“As a lifelong outdoorsman and avid hunter and fisherman, I have a deep appreciation for Alabama’s abundant natural resources and remain committed to protecting and preserving them long into the future,” said Senator Doug Jones. “I am grateful to the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund for their continued support and their unwavering advocacy on behalf of our environment. Together, we will continue our work to build on our clean-energy potential, grow our economy, and ensure future generations inherit a healthy, sustainable planet.”
As a longtime hunter and fisherman, Senator Doug Jones is committed to protecting Alabama’s natural resources for future generations. In the Senate, he has cosponsored legislation to authorize our nation’s best parks program, the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which has helped to create parks and outdoor recreation areas across Alabama and the country. Prior to his election to the Senate, Jones served as a U.S. Attorney and helped win murder convictions for two former Klansmen involved in the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church Birmingham bombing. Senator Jones earned a 79 percent on LCV’s 2018 National Environmental Scorecard.
