WASHINGTON, DC—The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Dan Kildee for re-election to Congress (MI-5). Congressman Kildee works to protect our environment and the Great Lakes while standing up to Big Oil.
“Congressman Dan Kildee advocates for a cleaner, more sustainable planet by standing up to corporate polluters and defending efforts to safeguard the air we breathe and the water we drink,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “He supports commonsense policies that protect our environment while growing our clean energy sectors and increasing the number of good paying jobs in Michigan and across the country.”
“Congressman Dan Kildee is committed to the protection and restoration of the Great Lakes, which is vital to our economy and way of life,” said Lisa Wozniak, Executive Director for the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. “He works to safeguard our environment and expand Michigan’s public lands for future generations to enjoy.”
Congressman Kildee is committed to reducing our reliance on dirty fossil fuels and expanding our clean energy economy. In Congress, he stood up to corporate polluters by co-sponsoring legislation to end Big Oil subsidies. He has also supported efforts to expand America’s clean energy and energy efficiency industries, which will decrease our dependence on foreign oil and create jobs right here at home.
He recognizes the important role of the Great Lakes in Michigan’s livelihood, which is why he co-sponsored legislation to combat the threats of invasive species, and has voted to defend the Clean Water Act. Congressman Kildee also works hard to protect our natural treasures—he co-sponsored legislation to safeguard Michigan’s public lands and supports efforts to fully fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund.
His voting record has earned Kildee an impressive 96% score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard in 2013, his first year in Congress. The non-partisan Scorecard is a nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a Member’s record. For more information, visit https://scorecard.lcv.org.
