Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Representative Ben Ray Luján for re-election in New Mexico’s 3rd Congressional District.

“Ben Ray Luján is a powerful leader in the effort to grow America’s clean energy economy,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “His dedication to creating clean energy jobs is matched by his commitment to protecting New Mexico’s public lands. We are thrilled to endorse his campaign and look forward to working with him for years to come.”

“Ben Ray Luján has been a trusted ally in the fight to make progress on the environmental issues impacting our health,” said Conservation Voters New Mexico Executive Director Demis Foster. “New Mexicans can count on him to continue standing up for our lands and our water as we work together to preserve the unique beauty of our home for future generations.”

“The health of our land, air and water are fundamental to our heritage, economy and our future,” said Congressman Ben Ray Luján. “I’m proud to be entrusted by the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund to fight against attacks by the Trump administration and Washington Republicans who are disconnected from our New Mexico values and priorities. Together we will stand up and protect the beauty of our home.”

Before he was elected to Congress, Representative Ben Ray Luján served as Chair of the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission, where he worked to create a renewable portfolio standard and expand clean energy production. As a member of the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition and chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus’ Task Force on Green Economy and Renewable Energy, he has introduced numerous pieces of legislation that would promote solar energy and provide job training for the clean energy sector. In Congress, Luján will continue fighting to protect public lands in New Mexico, including the Rio Grande Del Norte National Conservation Area. Representative Luján has earned a stellar 96% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
