Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today the endorsement of Valerie Foushee for election to the U.S. House of Representatives from North Carolina’s 4th Congressional District.

“Valerie Foushee has never stopped and will never stop fighting for the rights of all people in our country to drink clean water, breathe clean air, and enjoy access to the outdoors,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We are thrilled to endorse Valerie Foushee for Congress because we know she will continue her incredible leadership in the ongoing fight for environmental justice, a clean energy future and a democracy that is open and accessible for all of us.”

“From the Orange County Commission to the State Senate, Valerie Foushee has been a strong advocate for growing North Carolina’s clean energy economy to protect our communities and build a more sustainable future for all,” said North Carolina League of Conservation Voters Director of Governmental Relations Dan Crawford. “We are excited to work with her when she is elected to Congress to take action to protect our beautiful state from the impacts of climate change and ensure we protect every North Carolinian’s right to clean air, clean water and to participate in our democracy equally.”

“As a mother and grandmother, I am deeply concerned about the planet that we’re leaving for future generations,” said State Senator Valerie Foushee. “Conservation and climate action is something I’ve always championed in the state legislature and I have been proud to partner with such a distinguished organization like the League of Conservation Voters. In Congress, I will continue to prioritize environmental issues and be a champion that you can trust. I’m honored to stand with LCV Action Fund and grateful for their faith in me.”

Senator Valerie Foushee has been a champion for the environment and for environmental justice throughout her time on the Orange County Commission and in the State Senate, earning a 96 percent lifetime score from North Carolina LCV. In the legislature, she has introduced legislation to achieve 100 percent clean energy by 2050, advance clean energy tax credits and promote energy efficiency, protect clean water and mitigate PFAS pollution, to make polluters pay, protect children from pollution from garbage trucks, to make it easier to remove Confederate monuments, protect pollinators and to protect our democracy, including automatic voter registration and independent redistricting. As an Orange County Commissioner, she convinced her fellow commissioners to oppose extending and expanding a landfill that for four decades had been polluting a low-income, Black-majority community in the county, improving the health and safety of her constituents. In Congress, Foushee will continue her advocacy for climate action, creating good-paying clean energy jobs and advancing environmental justice.
