Santa Fe, NM — LCV Victory Fund launched a new six figure TV ad today in opposition to Yvette Herrell’s campaign against New Mexico environmental champion Rep. Xochitl Torres Small. Herrell was named to LCV Victory Fund’s 2020 Dirty Dozen list of some of the worst environmental candidates last week.

WATCH: “Development”

“Development” will run in the Albuquerque and El Paso markets beginning today. The ad is part of LCV Victory Fund’s ongoing effort to protect and expand the pro-environment-led House of Representatives.

“Yvette Harrell wants to put New Mexico’s public lands in the hands of the corporate special interests that fund her campaign instead of New Mexico’s families,” said Megan Jacobs, LCV Victory Fund National Campaigns Director. “We need to keep Rep. Torres Small in Washington, fighting to protect New Mexico’s public lands and way of life.”

As a member of the New Mexico House of Representatives, Herrell has voted against environmental protections and proposed an extreme attack on New Mexico’s public lands that could result in public lands being sold off to private developers. She has a 14% lifetime score from Conservation Voters New Mexico. This is Herrell’s second run for Congress, her second time on LCV Victory Fund’s Dirty Dozen list, and a rematch against LCV Action Fund-endorsed candidate Xochitl Torres Small who won the then open NM-02 seat in 2018.

LCV Victory Fund’s 2020 poll of battleground House districts, in partnership with NRDC Action Votes, EDF Action, and House Majority PAC, found that environmental messaging, both critiques of anti-environmental politicians and positive messaging in support of environmental champions, can swing competitive House races.

Full text of the new ad is below.

“Development”
We are the Land of Enchantment
But where New Mexico families see places to explore
Yvette Herrell sees dollar signs
She’s taken over 280 thousand dollars from special interests
That could profit off the development of our national public lands
And Herrell pushed legislation to remove protections from millions of acres
We can’t let Yvette Herrell turn New Mexico into the Land of Development
