Washington, D.C. – In response to the finalization of the replacement of BLM’s Waste Prevention Rule, LCV Legislative Representative Madeleine Foote released the following statement:

“This irresponsible decision ignores science, reality, and what’s best for our health and environment. In a move that is extreme even for this administration, this new rule also ignores the bipartisan vote in the Senate to reject rolling back these safeguards. It’s clear that polluters have captured the White House and run amok in our agencies. Puerto Rico still hasn’t fully recovered from the devastating impacts of last year’s Hurricane Maria as the enormous destruction from Hurricane Florence is still unfolding. Yet Trump and Secretary Zinke’s answer to these ever-more monstrous storms fueled by climate change is to gut the commonsense protections that would have decreased dangerous methane pollution.”
