Washington D.C. – In response to the recent announcement that Governor Newsom has appointed California Secretary of State Alex Padilla — the first Latino to represent California in the U.S. Senate — to fill Senator Kamala Harris’ vacant seat, the League of Conservation Voters released the following statement from Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld:

“LCV congratulates Alex Padilla on his historic appointment to fill Vice President-elect Kamala Harris’ seat in the U.S. Senate. Kamala Harris leaves behind a strong legacy and we’re so excited to work with Alex Padilla in the Senate where we are confident he will continue to fight for climate action, environmental justice and voting rights. We look forward to working with him in the Senate to advance bold and just solutions to the climate crisis that create a cleaner and healthier economy and future for all.”
