Washington, D.C. — In response to the new Secretarial Orders released from the Department of Interior today, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) released the following statement from LCV Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld:

“It is truly a new day at the Department of Interior with Secretary Deb Haaland in charge. Today’s actions replacing the Trump-era ‘energy dominance’ policies with a commitment to prioritize climate action in a just and equitable way is a major moment, demonstrating just the kind of whole-of-Department approach we need. We are thrilled to see the inclusion of intentional engagement and consultation with Tribes and environmental justice communities, and a focus on investments in the communities most impacted by climate change and the transition away from fossil fuels. This is the type of proactive and forward-looking vision necessary to shift the priorities on our public lands and waters and maximize their role in tackling the climate crisis, protecting our health, air, water, and land for all people in this country, and creating good-paying clean energy jobs.”
