Washington, D.C. — In response to today’s announcement that the Biden administration will protect the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and surrounding watershed in northeast Minnesota, LCV released the following statement from Conservation Program Director Alex Taurel:

“It is great to see the Biden administration take these critical steps towards protecting the Boundary Waters. Mining companies should not be allowed to pollute America’s most visited wilderness area and put at risk the vital outdoor recreation jobs, clean water, and wildlife habitat it provides for the communities of northeast Minnesota. We look forward to the Biden administration’s environmental review and are confident it will demonstrate that this watershed should never face the risk of toxic mining.”
