New York, N.Y. — At its annual New York dinner Tuesday night, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) presented its Lifetime Achievement Award to environmental champion Michael R. Bloomberg for his ongoing leadership and commitment to fighting the climate crisis.

Mayor Bloomberg was honored for his years of work addressing some of the most serious threats to our environment, including climate change and public health issues, and ushering in the clean energy revolution. Over the years, he has championed and led initiatives like America’s Pledge, the Bloomberg American Cities Climate Challenge and other sustainable cities programs through C40 Cities and the Global Covenant of Mayors, the Vibrant Oceans Initiative and sustainable finance initiatives like the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures and more.

“Mike Bloomberg has long displayed leadership on climate at the local, national and international level,” said Carol Browner, former EPA administrator and LCV Board Chair. “The work he has done to promote sustainability in New York City and in cities across the United States is unrivaled. With the climate-denying leadership in Washington, Mike knows that the real incubators of climate innovation are in cities and states. I speak on behalf of the entire LCV board of directors when I say thank you Mike for all you do for our movement. With your help, we will build the pro-environment majority we need to retake our country’s place leading the world promoting clean energy and fighting climate change.”

“Michael Bloomberg is someone who believes that we can make change and achieve progress through politics and elections — a philosophy that also motivates our work at LCV,” said Gene Karpinski, President of LCV. “He has made his life’s work one of fighting for our Earth and our Democracy. LCV couldn’t be more pleased to award him with the Lifetime Achievement Award.”

“It’s an honor to receive this award tonight — and to have worked with LCV over the years, both locally in New York and around the country,” said Michael Bloomberg. “The good news is: even without any help from Washington, we’re making real progress on climate change. Over the last ten years, thanks to bottom-up actions, the U.S. has cut carbon emissions more than any other large nation – and LCV’s “Clean Energy For All” campaign has helped drive that success. We’re already halfway to the goal we set in the Paris Agreement, and there’s nothing Washington can do to stop us.”
