Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today its endorsement of Governor Steve Bullock to the U.S. Senate from Montana.
“We are proud to support Governor Steve Bullock’s campaign for election to the U.S. Senate,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “Since entering public office, Governor Bullock has been a stalwart champion for growing Montana’s clean energy future and critical conservation efforts to protect our treasured public lands, clean air, and clean water. Montanans rightfully take pride in their state’s beauty and it is clear that Governor Bullock is the leader they can trust to protect our natural legacy.”
“From an increasing number of wildfires to disappearing glaciers in Glacier National Park, Montana is already experiencing the devastating effects of climate change –– and we need to act now to save our natural heritage,” said Governor Steve Bullock. “Montana’s public lands are our crown jewel, and I will continue to work to make sure every Montanan has access to our rivers, streams, and hiking trails that each and every one of us enjoys. I am grateful to have the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund’s endorsement and for their continued efforts to protect our environment. Together, we can combat climate change, grow our economy, and keep public lands in public hands.”
“As our Governor Steve Bullock continually brings people together to do what’s right for Montana—rising above partisan politics to protect our public lands, our clean air and water, and our voting rights,” said Montana Conservation Voters Deputy Director Whitney Tawney. “Unlike Montana’s current junior senator, Steve Bullock doesn’t just tell Montanans what they want to hear about public lands; he has a strong record as a conservation champion and he actually listens to the people he serves. The U.S. Senate needs more leaders like Steve Bullock, and our organization will do everything it can to help get him elected.”
Born and raised in Montana, Bullock is an avid outdoorsman and has been a strong advocate for Montana’s public lands and addressing climate change. During his two terms as Governor, Bullock has helped quadruple the amount of installed solar capacity, increased tax incentives for renewable energy and carbon capture, increased energy efficiency at schools, and held polluters accountable. A central focus of his time in public office has been getting rid of the corrupting influence of big money in politics in order to address climate change, among other issues. Prior to being elected Governor of Montana in 2012, Steve Bullock served as Montana Attorney General from 2009 to 2013 and worked in the Montana Department of Justice where he wrote a landmark opinion permitting public stream access.
