WASHINGTON, DC – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, today joined our state partners at Montana Conservation Voters (MCV) to endorse Rob Quist for Congress (MT-AL).
“LCV Action Fund is thrilled to join MCV in supporting Rob Quist, a true champion for our public lands, clean water and air,” said LCV Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “Now more than ever, we need leaders in Congress who will stand up to the extreme attacks on our environment and fight to keep our public lands in public hands.”
“Montana Conservation Voters is pleased to announce the endorsement of Rob Quist because we know he will be a champion for conservation issues in Congress and will stand up for our Montana values like clean air, water, and wild country,” said Kalispell native and enrolled member of the Blackfeet tribe, Mariah Gladstone. “Our public lands are one of our great equalizers and Montanans are leaders in the U.S. in protecting them- we know that Quist will champion these Montana values in Congress.”
Quist is running against Greg Gianforte, the Republican candidate for governor in 2016.
“When Gianforte tried to shut down our stream access, people here took it personally. In fact, Montanans’ emphatically rejected Gianforte this November for his anti-public lands and anti- stream access agenda. Gianforte is out of step with Montana values and now he wants a U.S. Congressional seat as a consolation prize,” said MCV Board Chair Juanita Vero of Greenough.
The winner of the May 25 special election will fill the open seat created when U.S. Representative Ryan Zinke was confirmed as U.S. Secretary of the Interior. In Congress, Zinke earned an appalling 4 percent lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
The non-partisan Scorecard is the nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a Member’s record. For more information, visit https://scorecard.lcv.org.
Quist is featured on LCV Action Fund’s GiveGreen website, the only bundling website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions for federal office.
