Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today its endorsement of Michelle De La Isla for election to the U.S. House from Kansas’s 2nd Congressional District.

“As a single mother who experienced poverty and homelessness, Mayor Michelle De La Isla knows firsthand the importance of prioritizing the most vulnerable communities amid the climate crisis,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We are thrilled to endorse De La Isla because of her strong commitment to environmental justice, and her dedication to the environmental movement and clean energy for all.”

Michelle De La Isla earned her degree in biology from Wichita State University in Kansas. She was elected to the Topeka City Council in 2013. After that she was elected by her colleagues as Deputy Mayor and then elected Mayor in 2017. Before running for Congress, she worked on diversity, equity and inclusion for Westar Energy, the local utility. As part of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, she has been involved with their efforts to promote clean energy and climate change led by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.
