Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today its endorsement of Marie Newman for election to the U.S. House in Illinois’ 3rd Congressional District.
“We are excited to endorse Marie Newman so she can fight for Illinois’ environment and clean energy future in Congress,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “Newman understands the urgent threat of the climate crisis, and we need her voice and passion for passing ambitious solutions in Congress now more than ever.”
“Climate change is this era’s greatest global emergency, and we are all first responders,” said Marie Newman. “That’s why I am excited to receive the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund and to join them in the fight to combat the crisis of climate change. We need bold, transformative change to leave this planet habitable for our children and grandchildren. That’s why I have pledged to fight for a green economy that is powered by 100% clean and renewable energy.”
Marie Newman was born in Chicago and grew up in Palos Park. She worked her way to partner at one of the largest advertising agencies in the country before starting her own successful consulting firm. Newman is running for Congress on a strong environmental platform that includes developing a Green New Deal to reduce carbon emissions in the next decade, re-joining the Paris Climate Agreement, growing the clean energy economy, banning ethylene oxide (EtO) and shutting down polluting facilities, and rebuilding the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) after its gutting by the Trump administration.
About LCV Action Fund
The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, the connected federal political action committee (PAC) of the League of Conservation Voters, works to elect leaders who stand up for a clean, healthy environment and to defeat anti-environment candidates who oppose climate action. Since the 1990 election cycle, LCVAF has helped elect and re-elect 90 U.S. Senators and 450 members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Over the last several years, our efforts have also helped elevate climate change and clean energy as critical issues in key elections.
