Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Lucas St. Clair for election in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District.

“Lucas St. Clair is a tireless champion for Maine’s environment. He understands that economic success and jobs follow good environmental policies,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “His extraordinary leadership in the creation of the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument clearly demonstrates his passion for protecting our treasured lands as well as our air and water. St. Clair’s energy, enthusiasm, and expertise will enable him to quickly become a leader in the U.S. House of Representatives.”

“I had the privilege to work closely with Lucas St. Clair when he served as president of our board of directors,” said Maine Conservation Voters Executive Director Maureen Drouin. “I know first-hand his commitment to protecting Maine’s natural resources, outdoor heritage, and economic future, and am thrilled for him to continue his service to our great state.”

“Whether it’s fishing, farming, working in a mill or in the tourism industry, the jobs Maine people go to everyday are directly linked to our environment,” said St. Clair. “That has been true for hundreds of years and with the right economic and environmental priorities it will be true for the next hundred. Out-of-touch politicians in Congress think we have to choose between the environment and the economy. They’re wrong. Maine people know that our economy depends on ensuring that we protect our greatest natural assets and that Maine remains a place where people want to live, work and raise their families.”

Protecting the environment and fighting climate change in Maine and across the country has long been a top priority for St. Clair. He served as the President of the Board of Directors of Maine Conservation Voters, assisting the growth of its programs as the organization successfully helped pass bipartisan clean water legislation, investments in land conservation and energy efficiency.

He has also been involved with other environmental organizations, including the Appalachian Mountain Club, Butler Conservation Fund, Elliotsville Plantation Inc., Friends of Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument, Maine Island Trail Association, National Park Foundation, Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership and the Quimby Family Foundation.

St. Clair is featured on LCV Action Fund’s GiveGreen website, the only website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions for federal office. Last cycle, LCV Action Fund raised more contributions to candidates through GiveGreen than ever before—over $8.3 million for state and federal candidates.
