Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today the endorsement of Emilia Sykes for election to the U.S. House of Representatives from Ohio’s 13th Congressional District.
“Representative Emilia Sykes has been fighting to build a sustainable and equitable clean energy economy that works for all Ohioans and we are thrilled to support her campaign so she can continue this work in Congress,” said LCV Action Fund Vice President of Political Affairs Craig Auster. “It has never been more important that we have leaders in Congress who will fight for environmental justice, our climate and democracy and we know Emilia Sykes will prioritize clean energy, clean air and water, justice, and jobs for all communities.”
“Representative Emilia Sykes is a dedicated advocate for environmental justice and a strong democracy. She will take those values to Washington as an Ohio representative in Congress. Rep. Sykes has fought to ensure that every Ohioan has access to clean drinking water and clean air, and we look forward to Rep. Sykes continuing to fight for all Ohioans and their environment in Congress,” said Trish Demeter, Interim President of the Ohio Environmental Council Action Fund PAC.
“Having studied public health, I know how clear the connection is between environmental factors, such as access to clean air and water, and the health of our communities,” said Representative Emilia Sykes. “I’m proud to be endorsed by the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund and when in Congress, I’ll fight for solutions to secure a sustainable, healthy future for every neighborhood while ensuring we bring and keep good jobs to Northeast Ohio.”
Representative Emilia Sykes served in the Ohio State House of Representatives from 2014 to 2021 and was elected Minority Leader from 2019 to 2021. While in the state house, she led efforts to repeal House Bill 6 – a disastrous and corrupt energy bill gutting clean energy and energy efficiency programs – and advocated for a proposed alternative Clean Energy Jobs plan that would establish a 50 percent renewable energy portfolio standard by 2050, encourage wind and solar development, expand weatherization programs for low-income communities and create training programs for clean energy jobs. She also fought to protect our democracy by cosponsoring legislation requiring boards of elections to provide secure ballot drop boxes and to strengthen Ohio’s campaign finance laws. She also organized a “Freedom To Vote Tour” with legislators across the state to advocate against anti-voter bills that undermined Ohio’s election integrity.

The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, the connected federal political action committee (PAC) of the League of Conservation Voters, works to elect leaders who stand up for a clean, healthy environment and to defeat anti-environment candidates who oppose climate action. Since the 1990 election cycle, LCVAF has helped elect and re-elect 95 U.S. Senators and 462 members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Over the last several years, our efforts have also helped elevate climate change and clean energy as critical issues in key elections.
