Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Dan McCready for Congress (NC-09).
“Dan McCready has been a leader on solar energy in North Carolina,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We need to elect more public servants like McCready, who recognize the economic, health and national security risks associated with climate change. McCready is a strong advocate for climate action and creating clean energy jobs. We are thrilled to endorse him for Congress.”
“Dan McCready knows protecting the environment and the economy must go hand in hand, he lives it in his daily life,” said Carrie Clark, Executive Director of the North Carolina League of Conservation Voters. “Dan understands that we must protect our coast from the potential harm of offshore drilling, and fight to make sure we have clean drinking water for our children and future generations.”
“As a clean energy entrepreneur, I’ve been dedicated to helping build solar farms all across North Carolina,” said McCready. “Protecting and preserving our natural resources is a vital mission. To me, conservation is not just a responsibility, it is a moral imperative.”
McCready is a Charlotte native and Harvard Business school graduate. Upon graduation from Duke University, he joined the Marines. After serving in the 2007 Iraq surge, McCready was honorably discharged as a Captain. McCready went on to co-found Double Time Capital with a fellow Marine, a firm that invests in solar farms in North Carolina. Double Time has helped build dozens of solar farms throughout the state and has helped put hundreds of North Carolinians to work. McCready played a key role in North Carolina rising to #2 in the country for solar energy capacity, and today North Carolina supports over 30,000 clean energy jobs. McCready also serves on the board of the North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association.
Since being sworn into Congress in January 2013, his opponent incumbent Representative Robert Pittenger’s highest annual score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard has been the 4 percent score he received his first year in office. His lifetime score is 1 percent, making him one of the most anti-environmental members of Congress. Pittenger has denied the existence of man-made climate change and in 2006 distributed a book called The Skeptical Environmentalist to his colleagues in the North Carolina Senate.
McCready is featured on GiveGreen.com, a project of LCV Victory Fund and NextGen America, supported by the NRDC Action Fund PAC. GiveGreen.com is the only website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions running for office. Last cycle, the GiveGreen program raised more contributions to candidates than ever before—over $8.3 million for state and federal candidates.
