Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today its endorsement of Carolyn Long for Congress in Washington’s 3rd Congressional District.
“Today, LCV Action Fund is proud to endorse Carolyn Long to represent Washington’s 3rd Congressional District,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “From oysteries suffering from ocean acidification to flooding in the Chehalis Basin to the constant threat of major forest fires, Southwest Washington is already living with the impacts of the climate crisis. Carolyn Long is the kind of hardworking leader the district needs to ensure that local perspectives are central to our fight to advance climate solutions and transition to a 100 percent clean energy economy.”
“Growing up working at her family’s small business and later, as a UFCW Journeyman Local 555, Carolyn Long knows the hard work it takes to get by,” said Shannon Murphy, President of Washington Conservation Voters. “We know she is ready to stand up for Southwest Washington families and protect clean air, clean water, public lands, and a healthy future for all of us.”
“Having grown up fishing and hiking in the beautiful lands we’re so lucky to be surrounded by in Southwest Washington, I’m thrilled to have been named a strong advocate for the third district’s lands and waters with an endorsement from the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund,” said Carolyn Long. “We can and must do more to fight the effects of climate change, which dramatically affects everything from our salmon runs, to our weather, to our water. As Southwest Washington’s next member of Congress, I will work night and day so we can continue to hike, hunt, fish, breathe, drink, live, and farm in Southwest Washington.”
Carolyn Long grew up working at her family’s produce store, and helped pay her way through college by working at Safeway, where she was a proud UFCW union member. Since 1995, she has worked as a professor at Washington State University Vancouver, teaching public policy. Long is committed to fight to protect Southwest Washington’s natural beauty, fight for a just transition to a clean energy economy, and restore the EPA and Department of Interior so they can protect our air, water and public lands. In contrast, her opponent U.S. Representative Jaime Herrera Beutler has an abysmal 9 percent lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
