Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced its endorsement of Alma Adams for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives from North Carolina’s 12th Congressional District.

“Throughout her career, Representative Alma Adams has fought for the health and safety of communities who bear the brunt of environmental injustice — from regulating toxic coal ash to making renewable energy accessible to all,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We are thrilled to support her for re-election because we know she will continue to push for strong and proactive environmental policies that combat the climate crisis, curb pollution, and invest in renewable energy and communities.”

“In the state legislature and now in Congress, Representative Alma Adams has been a champion for North Carolina’s environment and the needs of her constituents,” said North Carolina League of Conservation Voters Director of Government Relations Dan Crawford. “North Carolinians can trust that she will continue to fight for our clean air and water, and protect our public lands for our families and future generations to safely enjoy.”

“I am proud to be endorsed by LCV Action Fund,” said Congresswoman Alma Adams. “In Congress, I have worked to increase our commitment to environmental justice while continuing the fight against man-made climate change. This year, we have seen first-hand how decades of harmful environmental choices have made communities of color more susceptible to COVID-19. Now is the time to act. Thank you LCV Action Fund for supporting our work in Congress.”

Representative Alma Adams was first elected to Congress in 2014. She is a member of the Congressional Safe Climate Caucus. She recently sponsored the Public Safety and Wildlife Protection Act, which bans injurious trapping methods to reduce risks to public safety and unnecessary harm to animals and wildlife. Prior to her election to the House, Adams served in the North Carolina General Assembly for 20 years and on the Greensboro City Council and School Board.  She voted in support of the Clean Power Plan, and understands the urgency of transitioning to a clean energy economy.  In North Carolina, she supported legislation to help consumers secure loans for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.  The first amendment she put forth as a Member of Congress would protect the drinking water around coal ash sites, and received bipartisan support. Representative Adams has earned an excellent 98% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
