Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced its endorsement of Al Lawson for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives from Florida’s 5th Congressional District.

“Representative Al Lawson has dedicated his life to serving the people of Florida — throughout his time in the Florida legislature and now in Congress he has always prioritized the health of our communities and our environment,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We are proud to support him for re-election because we know he will continue to fight to equitably expand our clean energy economy and invest in clean water infrastructure.”

“For his entire career, Representative Al Lawson has been an important partner in our work to protect Florida’s environment and the health of our communities,” said Florida Conservation Voters Deputy Director Jonathan Webber. “From fighting to ban offshore drilling and cleaning up Superfund sites to demanding just action on the climate crisis — Rep. Lawson has fought for Floridians every step of the way.”

“I have seen the devastating impact of climate change across North Florida and across our state,” said Representative Al Lawson. “From the floods and storms in the Midwest, to the wildfires in the West, this crisis is the greatest threat we face as a nation. I led legislation to protect our environment while working in the State Legislature, and that fight has continued during my time in Congress. We only have one planet, and each day we are reminded of our responsibility to sustain a healthy and livable world for children and grandchildren. I am proud to have the support of LCV Action Fund.”

Representative Al Lawson was first elected to Congress in 2016. He has worked to secure funding for Superfund clean up in Jacksonville, has sponsored legislation to permanently ban offshore drilling off the coast of Florida, has helped lead the fight against titanium mining near wildlife refuges in the state and was a cosponsor of H.R. 9, the Climate Action Now Act.  Prior to serving in Congress, Lawson had a strong environmental record throughout his 28 years of service in the Florida Legislature. Representative Lawson earned an excellent 97% on LCV’s 2019 National Environmental Scorecard.

The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, the connected federal political action committee (PAC) of the League of Conservation Voters, works to elect leaders who stand up for a clean, healthy environment and to defeat anti-environment candidates who oppose climate action. Since the 1990 election cycle, LCVAF has helped elect and re-elect 90 U.S. Senators and 450 members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Over the last several years, our efforts have also helped elevate climate change and clean energy as critical issues in key elections.
