Washington D.C. — Earlier this week, an AP investigation found that President Trump’s EPA, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, has waived environmental safeguards 3,000 times at the request of the oil and gas industry — and Senator Cory Gardner remains silent.

“Senator Gardner voted to put a coal lobbyist in charge of the EPA, and now he’s standing by as the Trump administration exploits a pandemic to let polluters spew toxins into our air and water,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “Clearly the only thing that will stop Trump and Gardner’s anti-environmental crusade is voting them out of office this November and electing John Hickenlooper, an environmental leader who will always put Colorado first.”

Gardner has an abysmal 11% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard and has taken $1.7 million in contributions from corporate polluters. He consistently votes against clean air and clean water protections, voted to undermine NEPA, voted to cut the Environmental Protection Agency’s budget by a third and put a coal lobbyist in charge of the EPA, and, despite recent attempts to look good in an election year, has a record of selling out public lands. Gardner’s full anti-environmental voting record can be found here.

LCV Action Fund endorsed John Hickenlooper last week, citing his record of taking action on climate change and his plan to transition to 100% renewable energy.
