Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today the endorsement of Greg Casar for election to the U.S. House of Representatives from Texas’ 35th Congressional District.

“Greg Casar is a champion for our climate and environmental justice and we are thrilled to endorse his campaign for Congress,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “It has never been more important to have leaders in Washington who will prioritize the health of people over the wealth of polluters and we know that Greg Casar has a proven record on the Austin City Council. We look forward to working alongside him in the fight for a just and equitable transition to a clean energy future that will create millions of good-paying union jobs.”

“During the Texas Winter Storm, we saw first hand how working class neighborhoods were left to fend for themselves for days or weeks while the state’s top officials blamed renewable energy or flew to the beach,” said Greg Casar. “Texans deserve leadership who will fight and deliver on climate action. I’m proud to have earned the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund, because together we can fix the power grid, fight for a future for our children, and create a sustainable planet for us all.”

Greg Casar was born in Houston and is the child of Mexican immigrants. In 2014, Casar became Austin’s youngest city council member when he won his election. Casar was reelected to the Austin City Council in 2016 and 2020. In November 2021, Casar announced that he would be running for the 35th Congressional District seat. During his tenure as a city councilor, Casar has championed a number of progressive pieces of legislation. He has worked on legislation to electrify Austin’s public transportation fleet as well as push for the use of renewable energy. In 2019, Casar secured contracts that allowed Austin Energy to increase its share of power generated from renewable sources to 56 percent. Casar is a strong supporter of the Green New Deal and believes that we must take bold steps to address climate change.
