Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today the endorsement of Ben Diamond for election to the U.S. House of Representatives from Florida’s 13th Congressional District.

Representative Ben Diamond was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2016 to represent the 68th District, which includes most of the City of St. Petersburg. In the Florida legislature, he has served on various committees including the Agriculture & Natural Resources Appropriations Subcommittee and the Subcommittee on Civil Justice. Recently he worked on ending Florida’s M-CORES project, which would have created new toll roads through some of Florida’s most sensitive land and imperiled critical wildlife habitat, including the Florida panther. In the past three legislative sessions, Diamond has filed legislation that would require Florida to create an Office of Resilience and Coastal Protection along with a statewide resilience plan to help Florida mitigate the climate crisis. He has also introduced or cosponsored a number of bills related to protecting endangered species, conservation, safe drinking water, electric vehicles, funding a coastal oceans initiative at the University of Florida, and directing the Public Service Commission to forecast an energy plan through 2040 that included clean energy and energy efficiency. He also had a long career of protecting Florida’s environment before serving in the state legislature. As general counsel to Florida’s Chief Financial Officer, Diamond advised Florida’s response to the BP Deepwater Horizon oil disaster. Later in his career, he served as a civic leader in St. Petersburg on several local issues including improving public transportation and protecting the city’s water and natural resources. Diamond was also instrumental in the campaign to pass Florida’s Water and Land Legacy initiative, which sets aside a part of stamp tax revenue to fund land conservation projects.
