Help LCV respond to threats to our communities and our climate in 2025 Give Now
WASHINGTON, DC—This week, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) launched the next phase of a grassroots program, GreenRoots, to mobilize its members as volunteers in eight states to help elect Hillary Clinton as our next president and LCV Action Fund’s endorsed Senate candidates to restore a pro-environment majority to the U.S. Senate. The program includes 45 field staff in the following states:
• Colorado (Senator Michael Bennet and Hillary Clinton for President)
• Florida (Hillary Clinton for President)
• Iowa (Patty Judge for Senate and Hillary Clinton for President)
• New Hampshire (Hillary Clinton for President)
• North Carolina (Deborah Ross for Senate and Hillary Clinton for President)
• Ohio (Ted Strickland for Senate and Hillary Clinton for President)
• Pennsylvania (Katie McGinty for Senate and Hillary Clinton for President)
• Wisconsin (Russ Feingold for Senate and Hillary Clinton for President)
“The stakes in this election couldn’t be higher for our planet and for future generations. LCV is excited to be on the ground in these eight critical states through our GreenRoots program, recruiting our members to help elect and re-elect environmental allies who are working tirelessly to combat climate change, protect public health and grow our clean energy economy,” said Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “From the presidency to crucial Senate races and beyond, LCV members are more motivated than ever to do all they can, including the critical and hard work of knocking on doors and making phone calls to ensure that pro-environment candidates win on Election Day.”
LCV’s GreenRoots program first launched this cycle in January 2016 with 24 field staff who mobilized 270 members and completed over 1,100 volunteer shifts for Hillary Clinton ahead of the Iowa, Nevada and Colorado caucuses and the New Hampshire and Pennsylvania primaries. LCV members were thrilled to be knocking on doors, hosting phone banks and attending events to support Hillary, and GreenRoots is excited to build off that work in the general election.
In 2014, LCV’s GreenRoots program had 75 field staff mobilizing members on behalf of pro-environment candidates in nine Senate races, including Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina and Oregon. LCV recruited 9,300 members and completed 39,000 volunteer shifts.
