Washington, DC–In anticipation of new executive orders from President Trump on the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines, League of Conservation Voters Senior Vice President for Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld issued the following statement:

“No amount of ‘alternative facts’ can change the reality that these dirty and dangerous pipelines are a bad deal for clean air, safe drinking water and the communities living along the routes. The only people who benefit from these risky pipelines are the rich, international oil companies, their allies and nominees for President Trump’s rigged cabinet.

After extremely thorough review the State Department found that the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline was not in the national interest, and nothing in the last 14 months has changed that fact.  In fact, with the recent news that 2016 was the hottest year on record followed by 2015 and 2014, it’s clearer than ever that Keystone XL is a climate debacle that remains ‘All Risk and No Reward.’

In addition, LCV proudly joins the Standing Rock Sioux in opposing the Dakota Access Pipeline. No community should have to jeopardize their access to clean water or sacrifice sacred places of cultural and spiritual importance.

With this disgraceful anti-climate, anti-clean water, pro-polluter action coming on the heels of scrubbing the White House website of important climate change information and removing the Council on Environmental Quality website altogether, the Trump administration could not be off to a worse start when it comes to the environment and public health. Rest assured, we will be there to fight them at every step of the way.”
