The California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV) is the nationally prominent, political action arm of California's environmental movement and the oldest and largest state environmental voter league in the United States. With 30,000 members throughout the state, CLCV maintains California and federal Political Action Committees and operates two organizations: CLCV, a 501 (c) (4) membership organization and the CLCV Education Fund, a 501 (c) (3) Voters Education Fund. CLCV has headquarters in Oakland, an office in Los Angeles and a presence in Sacramento.
CLCV's mission is to protect the environmental quality of the state by increasing public awareness of the environmental performance of all elected officials, working to elect pro-environmental candidates to public office and keeping elected officials accountable to the environmental community. The Education Fund is dedicated to elevating the importance of environmental issues and helping build the capacity of related organizations.
CLCV is poised to benefit from a strategic, forward thinking leader to continue and advance the organization's impact locally and nationally. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is charged with ensuring that CLCV exercises its best efforts to elect pro-environment candidates to public office in California and hold them accountable to the environmental community.
The CEO is also responsible for the strategic leadership, management and direction of CLCV and the Education Fund. He/She supervises the management staff and oversees all CLCV and Education Fund programs and activities, including the canvass (membership) operation. The CEO manages, oversees, and participates in all CLCV fundraising activities. Working with the Board Chair, the CEO is the primary public face of CLCV and represents the organization to the public and press.
The ideal candidate should have a demonstrated ability to: communicate effectively with internal and external audiences; build broad alliances and collaborative partnerships; lead strategically and implement tactically. A minimum of 6 years of senior-level management experience, preferably as CEO or E.D. is required. Significant political experience and management savvy is important as well as a superior track record as a fundraiser. Statewide experience is preferred and background with a membership organization is helpful.
